Reasons For Hospital Lawsuit

Residents never saw studies detailing what the Utica area required to improve our healthcare. Regular Needs Assessments completed at city, county and the healthcare levels never documented building code violations or dangerously old hospitals as threats to regional healthcare.

Local officials have tried to seize statewide economic development preferences for downtowns hoping to hijack $300M- critical funding intended to prepare our hospitals for industry change.

They created false stories (only a few/several businesses would be displaced, targeted area called "crushing blight" and "functionally obsolete", they’d make new hospital “fit into” neighborhood, people will not have to travel for their healthcare, we’re not taking police station, etc.) to support their downtown hospital. They also ignored Utica’s Master Plan. They worked behind the scenes to secure buy-in from individuals and groups, and they set up a divisive environment making it very awkward and or perilous to challenge their decision.

Reasonable concerns, valid warnings, a sustained effort since August of 2015 by well-intentioned citizens to protect a neighborhood, have been ignored, ridiculed, or met with outright rebuke.

Meanwhile those wise to all the facts know we’re witnessing an orchestrated scam on healthcare, downtown development, and taxpayers.

Was our media in on it or just bamboozled?
