Oneida Indian Nation

Our neighbors to the west, The Oneida Indian Nation owns a major area employer, the Turning Stone Casino. Background on a major Land Claim is here: Oneida Indian Land Claim.

They have stated, and our County Executive has stated, "A casino is coming to Downtown Utica, part of the U District." See the Utica Comet's website: Commons Casino (If this page disappears, see Our Copy).

Others have investigated the OIN impact on the area. Others have stated that taxpayers were not treated fairly. And yet the Nation has had a VERY powerful impact on jobs, but if NYS taxpayers are only seeing a percentage of "slot revenues", what is the OIN holding back as their share? Based on massive buildout, should the OIN be contributing more?

OIN states, "Since the 2013 settlement among the Oneida Indian Nation, New York State, Oneida and Madison counties, the state receives 25 percent of slot machine revenues from Turning Stone Resort Casino, which is shares with ten counties in the region."

Below we look at OIN assets. What could a casino mean to Downtown Utica, the City of Utica, and current businesses in and around downtown?

The Nation's Oneida Enterprises and department locations including: 1) SāvOn Convenience Stores, 2) Car Care, 5235 Patrick Road, Verona, NY 13478, 3) Shenendoah golf course and 4) Sandstone Hollow golf course at Turning Stone, 5) Marion Manor Marina, 6) Snug Harbour Marina, 7) Mariner's Landing Marina, 8) Oneida Nation Health Services, 9) Nation Library, 10) Four Directions Productions, 11) Early Learning Center, 12) Department of Housing, 13) Nation Facilities, or other locations...

In addition buildings and the business they host, what are the assets worth and money required to developed these properties; roads, sewers, and other infrastructure. How much was completed by the Nation, and what was done by New York State and the surrounding municipalities?
